Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the practice of sharing materials between libraries. This page gives an overview of how ILL works in Kansas with best practices, explanation of the courier service and material replacement fund. It includes details on how to create a preferred lender list, how to capture and report ILL statistics and a link to ILL stats from previous years.
The State Library of Kansas is home to the Kansas Center for the Book, a program to highlight the state’s literary heritage and foster an interest in books, reading and libraries. The Kansas Center for the Book is an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book “These Centers also elevate and advocate for their state’s unique literary heritage – developed by writers whose works reflect distinctively American places.”

Every June and July libraries across the state of Kansas organize unique programming to delight children, teens and adults. Kansas libraries receive funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the State Library of Kansas to access Collaborative Summer Library Program materials to facilitate summer programming for their communities.
The Talking Books service also offers a summer reading program based on the yearly Collaborative Summer Library Program theme for patrons of all ages, child to adult.
In addition to providing library services to the legislative and executive branches of state government, the State Library staff are available to answer questions from the public about state government and the legislative process. The agency staff develops research guides that are included under the Kansans section of the website. The State Library deposits government publications in select libraries and maintains an online repository of state documents, the Kansas Government Information Online Library (KGI). The agency also is a Federal Depository library, along with seventeen other libraries in the state.
As a regional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, the Talking Books Division provides access to reading materials for users that have a visual impairment, physical impairment, or reading disability that prevents the reading of traditional print materials.
