The Kansas Center for the Book exists to highlight the state’s literary heritage and foster an interest in books, reading and libraries.
The Kansas Center for the Book is an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book “These Centers also elevate and advocate for their state’s unique literary heritage – developed by writers whose works reflect distinctively American places.”
Kansas Center for the Book staff organizes programs, including Kansas Notable Books and Kansas Reads to Preschoolers, and provides title suggestions for the Greats Reads from Great Places campaign. If you want to learn more about one of these programs, click on the appropriate menu item on the left.
Every June and July libraries across the state of Kansas organize unique programming to delight children, teens and adults. Kansas libraries receive funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the State Library of Kansas to access Collaborative Summer Library Program materials to facilitate summer programming for their communities.
The Talking Books service also offers a summer reading program based on the yearly Collaborative Summer Library Program theme for patrons of all ages, child to adult.
